Times are tough right now for Lardo.
He’s got the mileage fees on the rented Caliber still outstanding (after all, the paypal button is still there); there’s that personal loan for six grand he supposedly still owes on; and he just spent a hundred dollars to preregister the next ‘great American novel’ with the copyright office (totally unnecessarily, naturally.)
His support network has dissolved to the point of near non-existence. This is routinely reaffirmed by the constant need for Larry to insist that his support is still there (similar to when he says ‘to be honest’ or ‘indeed’, indicating a lie.)
His health appears to be failing (if you believe a word he says, that is.) Judging by the laundry list of ailments and symptoms he complains of, you would think that he’s a 95 year old alzheimers patient with a bad hip or something.
Yep, times sure are tough for the old chap. So what do you do when life’s got you down? When there’s no one to lean on for a little help? Well as the saying goes; desperate times call for desperate measures.
Sometimes you just gotta get back to the basics. What better way to make a comeback?

So Stevens can stall this out for years in the courts–and in the meantime, he’ll be living in the chalet, collecting his substantial pension, and living the good life in Alaska (and in DC). Hell, he could even get a job a lobbyist to fill the time waiting to be sentenced. And there’s still the possibility that President Bush could pardon him.
But he’s still a convicted felon. And in a few weeks he won’t be a senator anymore.

Megabus has some pretty good deals, and the Wifi is definitely a bonus. I once took a Fung Wah from Chinatown (NY) to Boston, which actually cost slightly more than Megabus does. There was no Wifi, and the bus actually caught fire somehow, leaving us stranded for two hours. I’ll definitely try this one next time.

I planned on buying a number of copies and giving them as stocking stuffers to people I didn’t like, but now that’s all ruined because Larry’s going to miss Christmas. In fact, he’s going to miss the holiday season entirely (except for those in the Orthodox Church). It’s just a crashing disappointment.
(Of course, I figure he’s going with the cheapest self-publisher around, so that may be their lead time with a piece of wretchedly-written piece of trash.)

The company notified Obama’s team of the breach Wednesday, which occurred on a phone that Obama no longer uses.
Employees may have gone through the billing records of the phone, Obama aide Robert Gibbs told CNN, but it is unclear what they did with the information. “Nobody was monitoring voicemail or anything like that,” Gibbs told CNN.
Verizon Wireless said it is investigating the breach.

In college, one of our friends rented a nice cheap apartment near a slaughterhouse. She could hear the cattle….let’s just say she didn’t eat meat for a very long time, but had a full understanding why the apartment was so cheap.

An Obama aide said his voice-mail messages and e-mails were not breached in the incident.
“We were notified yesterday that employees had accessed the records of an old cell phone no longer in use,” the Obama aide said. “No voice or e-mails were listened to or read.”
The company said the device in question was a simple voice phone, not a Blackberry or other device designed for e-mail or other data services.
In a statement, Verizon Wireless President and Chief Executive Lowell McAdam apologized to Obama and said all employees who had had access to Obama’s account, whether authorized or not, were put on immediate leave with pay.
Telecom analyst Michael King of Gartner said that a telephone employee accessing billing information could likely see the numbers a customer had called, how long conversations with those people were and when he called them.
King said he could not recall a high-profile case where an employee had unauthorized access to records and that recent public cases involved company outsiders finding ways to check other people’s records.
Verizon said it will soon impose disciplinary action against those who accessed Obama’s account improperly.
Asked to disclose exactly what kind of information was viewed, the duration and frequency of the unauthorized access, Verizon Wireless spokesman Jeffrey Nelson declined comment beyond the company’s statement.

A Circuit Court judge has dismissed Internet author Andy Martin’s lawsuit seeking to obtain a copy of President-elect Barack Obama’s Hawai’i birth certificate.
Judge Bert Ayabe upheld arguments from Gov. Linda Lingle’s administration that Martin — a political opponent of Obama — had no standing under state law to obtain a copy of the document.
The decision, issued late Wednesday, first denied Martin’s “emergency motion” for production of the birth certificate.
Martin “does not have a direct and tangible interest in the vital statistic records being sought, namely the birth certificate of President Obama,” Ayabe wrote.
Martin did not fall into any category of persons defined under state law as having a legal right to the record, said the judge.
Ayabe wrote that Martin also failed to demonstrate that “irreparable harm will occur if the records are not provided to the plaintiff.”
And Martin provided “insufficient evidence to indicate that the public interest supports” release of the record, Ayabe ruled.
“There is a reasonable belief that the public would rather preserve confidentiality of vital health records,” the judge wrote.
After denying the emergency motion, Ayabe then granted a motion filed by the state attorney general’s office for dismissal of the suit.
He cited Martin’s “lack of standing” and also ruled that Martin never legally served Lingle and state Health Department director Dr. Chiyome Fukino with a copy of the legal complaint.

I was really offended when he compared himself to Jesus the first time. It was when he claimed he had a mole and it was among the “group12″ of closest followers. The undereducated people who supported him (about 99% of the total count of his supporters) were willing to suspend what little vestiges of intelligence that they actually had to believe anything Larry said, defend anything Larry did, and excuse any lie or broken promise Larry made.

The numerous lawsuits put forth by these bigoted, racist, and mentally unstable morons challenging Obama’s citizenship status in court, to me, signify the emergence of a detrimental psychosis that I didn’t want to believe really existed in today’s world.
I grew up hearing about the wonders of the internet. I grew up hearing about how the past was filled with race wars, hate, and Jim Crow, and how it didn’t really exist anymore. Ed doesn’t have the faintest understanding of how the Supreme Court works or what this conference is on December 5th. The nine justices get together in the conference alone–no staff, no law clerks, nobody except them. This means Leo won’t be making an appearance before them because NOBODY is let in. NOBODY. And that means Leo. In fact, the most junior Justice is the one serving coffee, tea, etc., to the others because no one else is allowed in the room. NOBODY.
Given how many cases are submitted to the Supreme Court each year, the Justices will have to go through approximately 750 to 1000 cases each month. As you can imagine, they go through cases rapidly. December 5th is the day that they’ll vote on Leo’s legal babble. He’ll know shortly after that day if the Supremes will take his case or they’ll reject it. IF they take the case, they’ll schedule it for oral arguments and they’ll tell Leo when. It might not be for months. IF they don’t take the case, Leo will get a one page order telling him the case is denied. They don’t even give a reason. And because this is the highest court in the land, the case is over, done with, finito.

(Noll recently took Marsden’s place teaching religious history and theology at Notre Dame.) Surprisingly, it’s a refutation of the Christian Nation myth from an evangelical perspective.

We’ve been by the synagogue in Newport, but they didn’t have tours the day we were there. We spent our time in Newport doing the tourist thing and looking at sailboats (we always look at sailboats–and we’ve gone to a zillion maritime museums).

I consider myself a Christian, although I no longer belong to any organized religion. My mother hates that. Anyway, she said Christianity is under attack in this country. I feel like telling her that if they keep their noses out of other people’s business and stop attacking others, they might not get return attacks.
However, I must bite my tongue around her. She was raised by Dutch parents, as a Calvinist in Michigan. My father, who is from the Netherlands and was raised Catholic thought my mother’s religion at that time was so over the top when it came to strict rules. Now they attend a little non-denominational church that is very quaint. When they moved to Florida, my mother wanted the two of them to go to the Christian Reformed Church (Calvinism), but my father refused. The church they attend is pretty tolerant toward other religions and ideas, but my mother still holds on to her strict religious roots.
